Prestige Auto sponsors August luncheon
GM to sponsor SAMA auto show breakfast
By Juan Robbin

A total of 33 people turned out for the August SAMA business luncheon at Bernie Kosar's Steak House in South Miami on August 30. The luncheon was graciously sponsored by Prestige Auto Specialists, and brothers Marcello and Angelo Serrato were in attendance to represent the company. Once again, we thank you Marcello and Angelo and Prestige for a great lunch and for their continued support.
SAMA President Ron Beasley called the meeting to order and asked Treasurer Bill Adams for a financial report and a membership update. Adam reported that the association has had few expenses, so it is on relatively solid financial ground, thanks to a membership roster that now includes 44 individual names and 11 corporations. Both Adam and Beasley expressed pleasure with the growing membership and interest in the organization. Adam also discussed his progress in setting up a program with the Let’s Make A Wish Foundation that would see SAMA providing automobile rides to seriously ill children in a controlled environment at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Adam said he hoped to have the details for the program finalized by November. Meantime, SAMA Secretary Jaime Florez announced that General Motors has volunteered to sponsor SAMA’s planned kick-off breakfast for the South Florida International Auto Show in November, and the SAMA board of directors has voted to accept the offer. SAMA member and GM representative Alex Vitale made the offer earlier (he was unable to attend the meeting) and promised to have a top-level GM executive on hand to address the group. Flores said SAMA envisions that the auto show breakfast will become an annual event and that 75-100 guests are expected to attend this year.

Later, SAMA Vice President Paul Borden summarized plans for the auto show awards program. He asked for (and got) seven volunteers to participate in the judging of the vehicles on display at the show. The SAMA volunteers will walk the floor of the show the night before Press Day and individually make their selections for the “Star of the Show” and “Best Concept Vehicle in the Show”. Ballots will be tabulated immediately, and the results will be announced and trophy presentations made at the SAMA breakfast the following morning.
During an open discussion
following lunch, Marcello Serrato, the founder and president of Prestige Auto Specialists, told SAMA members about the importance of participating in the South Florida automotive media events. He said that it is imperative that SAMA members respond to corporate invitations and let the corporate communications representatives know that South Florida’s automotive journalists appreciate their interest.
In an open discussion following lunch, SAMA members discussed the dates of the South Florida International Auto Show and whether there was too much conflict with the Los Angeles Show. There was also discussion about whether SAMA should ask show officials about the prospect of changing the name of the show back to the Miami International Auto Show. A resolution was adopted to discuss the idea with show officials.
Beasley closed the meeting with the announcement that the next SAMA luncheon will be on Thursday, September 28, and that it will be sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, most likely at a South Beach location.
See you all then!
