was a balmy, breezy star-lit winter
night with just a hint of a chill in the air – a perfect evening
for the Southern Automotive Media Association’s second annual
holiday boat party cruise on
More than 50 SAMA members and their guests boarded the
festively-decorated yacht MT Celebration in Coconut Grove on
Sunday evening, Dec. 7, and then sailed out onto
to kick off the 2009 holiday season. It marked the second
successive year that SAMA has hosted its annual holiday
festivities aboard the Celebration, captained by veteran skipper
Mike Dudik, head of Miami-based Floridian Yacht Charters www.yachtcelebration.com
Auto manufacturers General Motors, Chrysler, Hyundai, Nissan,
Infiniti, Jaguar and Land Rover sponsored this year’s holiday
bash, and all who attended expressed their thanks and appreciation
to the sponsors for continued support of SAMA.
Party-goers dressed in their holiday-party best began lining up at
the Dinner Key docks shortly after 6:00 p.m., and boarding started
shortly after 6:30, with the recorded sounds of an island
steel-drum band playing in the background. Two bars were open –
one in the lower dining room and another on the upper aft deck –
and hot hor d’oeuvres were served as the lines were cast off and
the Celebration got underway. A disc jockey played non-stop music
on the top deck and a delicious buffet dinner of roast pork, roast
beef and roast turkey with all the trimmings was served.
It was a beautiful
evening and the weatherman cooperated by providing just a hint of
a chill in the air, and not a drop of rain.
After departing Dinner Key, the Celebration first sailed east
before turning north to Government Cut, then west toward Downtown
Miami, where the partiers were treated to the beauty of the
city’s skyline illuminated in its holiday finest. Captain Dudik
then cruised the Celebration slowly along the shoreline to allow
SAMA members the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the
, and then turned south and headed back to Coconut Grove.
