Shell sponsors June luncheon at Biltmore Hotel
By Ron Beasley

The historic and elegant Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables was the scene of the June SAMA luncheon and Shell Lubricants was the sponsor.
More than 40 SAMA members attended the luncheon that featured a delicious Caribbean-spiced flank steak and Shell Lubricants’ Quaker State brand manager Jeanine Lewis as guest speaker, who discussed the company’s lineup of auto-related products.

Many SAMA members were surprised to learn that Shell Lubricants, a division of Shell Oil, manages and manufacturers many of the world’s leading lubricants brands, including Shell Helix, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Shell Tellus, Shell Cassida, Shell Rimula, Shell Spirax, Rain-X and Jiffy Lube services.
“Our scale and global capability mean that we deliver consistent, quality lubricants products and services worldwide,” said Ms. Lewis. “We have operations in 120 countries and are supplied by a network of 70 blending plants and 10 base oil plants extending across all regions of the world.”
Ms. Lewis told SAMA members that the Hispanic market was and important one for both Shell Lubricants and Quaker State, and she previewed some of the company’s Spanish-language television commercials currently airing across the country.
Ms. Lewis also noted that Shell Lubricants is a world leader in lubricants technology, with 60 years of experience in research and development to discover new products.

“We have five full-time international research centers involved in the development of advanced lubricants technologies and specifications,” she said. “Shell Lubricants is one of the global leaders in the finished lubricants industry, manufacturing and marketing a wide range of top-quality lubricant products from food-quality formulations used in soft drink canning plants to thick, industrial greases that protect the massive roller bearings in steel mills. The product range also includes lubricants for the truck, passenger car and motorcycle markets, a portfolio of car-care products and fast lube services.”

As with everything else related to oil today, Ms. Lewis said the cost of Shell Lubricants products will go up as the price of oil continues to rise.
In other matters, SAMA president Ron Beasley said that invoices have been mailed to all members for 2008-09 annual dues, and they are due on July 1, the beginning of the association’s new fiscal year.

Beasley closed the June meeting by noting that Audi North America is the sponsor for the July luncheon, which will be on July 24th at Smith & Wollensky’s Restaurant on South Beach where the all-new Audi A4 will be featured. Smith & Wollensky’s always serves a great lunch, so don’t miss it. See you there!
