 Ninety-one!

That not only was the high temperature for the day when SAMA members and guests gathered June 24 for the monthly luncheon in the Rusty Pelicanís Coral Room.

Thatís the new high for our membership!

Treasurer Marcello Serrato, who has worked tirelessly in getting our membership rolls up, made the announcement at the event sponsored by Lincoln.

Just at half that number was in attendance, including new members Niky Pauli (Media Racing), Sara Pines (Honda), and Matt Becherer, Jay Rand, and Nathalie Salas (Homestead-Miami Speedway), who all were welcomed.

The Speedway has been a strong supporter of SAMA, donating the facility and providing the lunch for the highly successful and popular Rides-N-Smiles event at the Speedway. Very simply, without the Speedway, there likely would be no Rides-N-Smiles.

Speedway President Becherer, who assumed his new position in December, expressed his support of the event in making a few words of welcome to the group.

Honda already has jumped in and agreed to sponsor the August luncheon.

As noted, Lincoln was the sponsor for the June luncheon, and our good friend Alvaro Cabal from Fordís Southwest Region office was on hand to introduce the presentation.

Brett Burin, Lincoln MKX Marketing Manager, gave walk-arounds for the new Lincoln MKX both before and after the meeting, and Product Design Engineer Ivette Hernandez gave an informative presentation on the new MyLincoln Touch technology that will be incorporated throughout the vehicle lineup, starting with the 2011 MKX.

MyLincoln Touch takes the operation of technology such as navigation, satellite radio, phone, and climate control to the next level with a highly intuitive system that operates with voice or touch controls.

It appears remarkably simple to operate, and SAMA members no doubt are eagerly looking forward to trying it out.

Our next meeting will be July 22 with Cadillac as the sponsor.
