SOUTHEAST TOYOTA HOSTS CAPACITY CROWD FOR MARCH LUNCHEON

A capacity crowd of over 50 members and guests gathered March 24 at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center for SAMA’s March luncheon sponsored by Southeast Toyota.

All got a preview of the 2016 third-generation Toyota Prius and had the opportunity to tour the convention center floor at the annual Fort Lauderdale Auto Show, which benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County.

President Pepe Delfino conducted a brief business session before the program, announcing that progress is being made on creating a new event, the Everglades Challenge, for off-road vehicles. It is being planned as a fall anchor event to go along with Rides-and-Smiles, now in February, and June’s Topless in Miami convertible competition. More details will be coming soon!.

With the Miami Beach Convention Center undergoing extensive renovation, John Kiskinis announced that the annual Miami International Auto Show will be held in two halls, C and D for 2016 and A and B for 2017. Dates this year are Sept. 10-18, but press day featuring the annual SAMA Awards Luncheon will be Friday, Sept. 9.

Paul Borden cleared up some mild confusion over the dates for Topless in Miami which are listed as June 1-3 on the website calendar events. Those dates are for manufacturers’ reps information to make their travel plans. The actual event continues to be a one-day affair with judging and the awards dinner on Thursday, June 2, at the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne.

Bill Adam reviewed the highly successful Rides-and-Smiles event at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Feb. 27 and the SAMA Salute to the Military Car Show the day before at the Homestead Air Reserve Base.

Treasurer Marcello Serrato reported a balance of $10,756 in the SAMA treasury and also warned that dues are due and anyone who goes beyond the March 31 deadline will have to apply for reinstatement to the membership rolls.

After the business, Christy Caliendo introduced Brian Hubbard and Tobby Silver, Southeast Toyota Training Managers based in Orlando and Tampa, respectively, for the program and the preview for the 2016 Prius. Video coverage of the presentation as well as the business session is posted on the website.
