Members of the South Florida automotive media community
on March 22 to launch the Southern Automotive Media
The group convened at former
and Miami Dolphins football star Bernie Kosar’s restaurant,
Bernie’s Steak House, for the inaugural SAMA meeting, which
was sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales.
The first order of business for the
fledgling organization was to elect officers. The group
nominated and elected Ron Beasley, automotive editor for
’s Community Newspapers, to be SAMA’s founding president.
At the same time, veteran freelance automotive journalist Paul
Borden, who writes for Miami Monthly Magazine and the
, monthly lifestyle publication “N”, was elected vice
president; Jaime Florez, vice president of Megazines
Publications, was elected secretary; and the popular NBC
Motorsports analyst Bill Adam was elected treasurer. All were
elected without opposition.
“It was heartening to see such a strong
turnout for this first meeting of SAMA,” said Beasley.
automotive media community is quite large, very diverse and
active in many different areas. An organization such as this
has been needed for a long time.”
Beasley said SAMA will provide a platform
for the automotive media – journalists, corporate
communications specialists, marketing and advertising
representatives – to meet, network and exchange ideas.
Monthly luncheon meetings are planned, with guest speakers,
product presentations and new vehicle demonstrations by
various auto manufacturer representatives.
