2012 OFFICERS: JAIME
FLOREZ, BILL ADAM, TONY LESESNE, AND MARCELLO SERATTO
It’s official
The election results announced at November’s SAMA luncheon confirmed Jaime
Florez as president, Bill Adam as vice president, and Marcello Serrato as
treasurer for 2012.
They were nominated unopposed in October.
In addition, and in very close balloting, Tony Lesesne was elected
secretary. Teresa Bravo, who has been responsible for arranging the very
successful auto show events the last two years (as well as the earlier
breakfasts) also was nominated for secretary.
Jaime, Bill, and Marcello have served as officers for the past two years.
Jaime moves up from secretary to president in replacing Paul Borden, who
served the last two years in the office.
Paul presided for the last time at the November luncheon, which was
sponsored by Ford. More than 40 members and guests gather at Joe’s Stone
Crabs to hear Ford Industry Analyst Erich Merkle talk about what is going
on not just at Ford but within the industry itself.
Merkle noted that sales are continuing to progress from the low point of
2009 even with national unemployment hovering around the 9 percent mark.
Sales of “smaller cars” also continue to grow as younger buyers continue
to enter the market (not to mention the impact of fuel prices), though
empty-nester older buyers also influence the segment.
Not surprisingly, considering how many you see just casually when driving
around South Florida, crossover utilities also are popular sellers.
Before signing off, Erich also gave us his email address (emerkle2@ford.com)
and phone number (313-806-4562).
We want to thank Ford and Fernando Senra, who arranged the luncheon for
Joe’s, for sponsoring our November event.
Congratulations are in order for all the incoming officers as well.
Next up for SAMA is the annual Rides-N-Smiles event at Homestead-Miami
Speedway following by the holiday sponsor appreciation event on Dec. 11 at
Redfish Grill.
More information will be coming on that, so watch your email!
