Jaime Florez, who served as President in 2011 and 2012, will serve again as SAMA President for 2017.
His election was announced Nov. 30 at the monthly luncheon sponsored by Ford at the Rusty Pelican.

In addition, Paul Borden and Eduardo Hapke were reelected as Vice President and Secretary, respectively. Marcello Serrato was unopposed as Treasurer.

“This is an election with no winners and no losers,” Florez said after the results were announced. “Pepe has done a great job in his position. Pepe will continue to be a member of our Board not only because he is immediate past president but because he has been spectacularly good for our Association.

“Without him we would not have Internet, we wouldn’t have our email, we wouldn’t have our website. His input to the Board is every important, and I would like you to continue, Pepe, as a Board member of our Association.”

In other business, President Delfino announced that the Board had adopted a new policy regarding payment of dues. Dues must be paid by February or membership privileges, such as attendance at monthly luncheons, will be suspended.

Treasurer Serrato explained that when members RSVP to luncheon invitations, they will be given a reminder if their dues have not been paid. Dues may be sent to Marcello at Prestige or at the January or February luncheon. Marcello said he would even accept checks at the holiday party.

Annual dues are $100 for Individual Press and $200 for Corporate Press, which covers all members of a corporation. Individual Associate memberships are $150 and Corporate Associate memberships are $250.

Speaking of the holiday party, it will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Redfish Grill in Matheson Hammock Park in Coral Gables. Invitations with more details will be forthcoming. Please remember to bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots, as usual.

It also was announced that the treasury has a balance of over $15,000 thanks to money from sponsors coming in for the Holiday Party.

Representing Ford for the presentation was Albert Collazzo, who said Ford had had a “wonderful year” in working with SAMA members in 2016.

“So really my message on behalf of Ford today is one of celebration and one of appreciation,” he said. “To appreciate the work and support that each and every one of you has given us in 2016, not only in sharing news and information about our products — which in 2016 were very important to us and you all had an opportunity and experience to cover, the Super F-150, the Fusion, the sporty and flexible Escape and, of course, the Mustang, which is our performance favorite.

“You’ve also been instrumental in not only sharing the Ford brand but also Ford’s commitment to a better world and the things that we do in our community to ensure that our families are safe on the road.”
